Advent Reflection - Abundance

The thought topic for today is abundance.  How have I been shown abundance?  I'm so immersed in it that it's hard to pick out one or 2 ways.  My whole life is a life of abundance.  It sounds perhaps egotistical to say that, but that's not my intent.  I just mean to say that my level of hardship is nearly zero.  I have health, family (multiple generations), friends, food, money, security.  Where has God shown me abundance?  Everywhere.  In everything.  I could not ask for a life without any hardship, because without that I would not become forged into a better version of myself.  Even my trials lead me to abundance.

Personal Savior

Recently I've been grappling with one of the basic tenants of Christianity - the personal savior.  I haven't read much on it, but I'm pretty sure someone else has already thought this through much more eloquently than I will.  And yet, that doesn't mean I don't get to think about it myself... I just ran a personal financial statement for my bank.  I put it off about 3 months because it was so stupidly detailed, but finally sat down and DID IT!  And guess what?!?!  Our net worth is $968,250.  Ho.ly.crap. About 2 years ago when I started building this business, I got to know some high achievers who *must* be millionaires.  It isn't a question you can really ask in polite company (even though I'm not usually polite, I'm usually nosy and to the point), so I can't be certain, but...  yea.  At some point in the past year I realized that I KNOW MILLIONAIRES!  Like, personally.  We eat and drink and chat together on a regular basis.  This is both brain hurting and totally expected.  Of my college friends, 2 successfully navigated the tech startup world and made bank for their hard efforts.  Also in my college friends are many super intelligent engineers, and if (as such) they started investing 10% into their 401k at gradu...

Oh my God

A random pre-note: When people say "Oh my God!", casually, in conversation or as an exclamation, I cringe inside. I'm home alone tonight, settling in before my triathlon tomorrow morning. As I was trying to go to sleep I did a mental tally of my life and ended up saying a not silent prayer of gratitude. I simply repeated the word thank you each time I thought of a good thing in my life. There were a lot of "Thank Yous" said. Lately I've been stressed about work, and even in the thick of it I know that it's a good problem to have. In my musings I started to remember a Jars of Clay song that I heard them sing once; it had a profound impact on me at the time. A poignant counter-point to my current gratitude. I was drawn to dig it up and listen to it in the dark of my silent house. The last minute or so is what gets me every time... It still hits me the same, the place he sings from.
