Coffee is the new cigarette

We don't take smoke breaks anymore, we take coffee breaks.
Instead of shelling out $5 for a pack of smokes every few days, we happily pay $3.50 for a non-fat half-caf venti frap every morning.

Being an avid coffee drinker, I'm not complaining. I just find this interesting. 20 years ago smoking was the norm. Now it's taboo and caffeine reins supreme.

Personal Savior

Recently I've been grappling with one of the basic tenants of Christianity - the personal savior.  I haven't read much on it, but I'm pretty sure someone else has already thought this through much more eloquently than I will.  And yet, that doesn't mean I don't get to think about it myself... I just ran a personal financial statement for my bank.  I put it off about 3 months because it was so stupidly detailed, but finally sat down and DID IT!  And guess what?!?!  Our net worth is $968,250.  Ho.ly.crap. Oh my God

A random pre-note: When people say "Oh my God!", casually, in conversation or as an exclamation, I cringe inside. I'm home alone tonight, settling in before my triathlon tomorrow morning. As I was trying to go to sleep I did a mental tally of my life and ended up saying a not silent prayer of gratitude. I simply repeated the word thank you each time I thought of a good thing in my life. There were a lot of "Thank Yous" said. Lately I've been stressed about work, and even in the thick of it I know that it's a good problem to have. In my musings I started to remember a Jars of Clay song that I heard them sing once; it had a profound impact on me at the time. A poignant counter-point to my current gratitude. I was drawn to dig it up and listen to it in the dark of my silent house. The last minute or so is what gets me every time... It still hits me the same, the place he sings from.
