Canker Sores and Reunions
I have a sore on my tongue due to vitamin deficiencies in my body. Could it be that some other creature is sucking the life force out of me and leaving me a wasted shell of a person? I think so!
Other than that, life is good. This weekend was our 5 year WPI reunion. On one hand, the actual "reunion" part sucked. We paid $15 for some crappy fried bar food and 2 tickets for beer, which I don't even drink. And there should have been someone DJing or something to welcome us back and maybe touch on some highlights of our class. On the other hand, it was the best homecoming I've ever been to. WPI has really evolved since we left. I think it began while we were there with the opening of the Campus Center, but now... They've put a lot of energy into the sports programs, among other things. As a result, the football game could be watched from fancy new bleachers, there was an actual half-time show by a realistic looking marching band, and the game was a close call with us winning in the final quarter. The quad was full of the usual BBQing and surreptitious drinking from non-surreptitious red cups. TKE actually did a good job of including the alumni and letting them know what was going on during the day. (Although they didn't do that great a job of getting alumni to show up :)) And the Goat's Head Trophy almost made a spectacular appearance after the rope pull. (Would have been truly spectacular if the getaway vehicle actually got away.)
5 years is a good time to go back. I finally feel far enough away from the scene that I can leave it to the young'uns without feeling like they're invading my turf, and enough people came back that I knew that it was an entertaining time. It was fun to reminisce and to catch up on peoples' life updates. All in all, big win.
