too much media
There is just no possible way I can keep up with blogging, MySpace, posting pics, fiddle, running/swimming/biking, and life too. I’m overwhelmed. But I’ll keep trying. Just got back from Vegas at 4 am this morning, and I have to say, it was a blast. But not the blast you're probably envisioning. The past couple times I have been to Vegas I have either been passing through or at a bachelorette party. Passing through - well, that's mostly pretty lights and not a lot of sleep. Bachelorette parties - well, that's mostly alcohol, pretty lights, and not a lot of sleep. And a constant urge to one-up any other random story I’ve heard about Vegas, true or not. But this trip was less binge-drinking and much more vacation. mmmmm vacation. I actually feel refreshed, which I think is counter-intuitive since I still only slept a few hours each night... Shakes and I arrived Thursday evening and grabbed some sushi (I managed to talk our landlord down to raising our rent only $200 instead of $300 a month, so I got treated to dinner :)) Then we wandered the strip and came across the 1/2 price ticket place. Since Matt's flight didn't arrive until 11:30 or so, we decided to go see a show. Of course, since I was fat and happy on expensive fish, I let Shakes pick the show, called Fantasy... girls dancing, I can dig it. Sounded good. We wander to the Luxor pre show where I teach him how to lose money at blackjack, and then I look up and realize I misread the fine print... girls topless dancing. ohhhhh. Neat. BOOBIES! It was what I imagine the pussy cat dolls concerts are like, but with less clothing. (Bet you didn't think that was possible) The girls were all good dancers, the music was fun, and they made a random drunk guy in the audience do silly things. We meet up with Matt closer to midnight and then of course feel the need to wander around drinking (because we can), see the pretty lights, gamble a bit. Around 4 am though, the caffeine and drunk sober drunk combination made me feel funny in the head and we called it a night. Around 8 am I think we headed to the pool for some lounging, after a few hours hit up the Luxor again, this time for a buffet (of LOVE. No just kidding. It was food.) Gambled a bit more money, grabbed some food, wandered the strip. Lots of lounging, wandering, and eating. And gambling. Friday night we got all gussied up and went to dinner at PF Chang's (YUM!) and then went to see Cirque du Soleil's KA at the MGM Grand. It was the most spectacular set I have ever laid eyes on. The stage did things I have never seen before, and so did the people! Unfortunately, I picked up a head cold on the way there and was incredibly tired throughout the whole show, but it was still amazing. The next day Shakes rented a Harley at 8 am and set off for a day of adventures in the desert. Matt and I pretty much repeated the previous day of lounging, strolling, and gambling, punctuated by copious amounts of eating. That evening he took me out to dinner at the Palms to a restaurant called Nove Italiano and it was spectacular. Set on the 51st floor with a magnificent view of the strip and a menu to match, it was the perfect date ;) We then met back up with Shakes around 9:30 and headed downtown to do the whole Fremont St experience. That place is COOL! The strip tends to be more ritz and glamour, but Fremont St is old school Vegas. I made them go into the Golden Nugget and found out that it was not in any way the dump I expected. They've completely renovated the interior and it is NICE! There's an amazing pool with a huge aquarium in the center (with SHARKS!) and a water slide that goes through the center of the aquarium. How cool is that? If we go back, I want to stay there! We then spent the next 2 hours listening to a really good lounge act in the hotel bar, until they ended around 2 am. A long bus ride, 3 burritos (just for Shakes) and some drunken fountain splashing and piggy-backing later, we rolled in around 4 am again. Sunday, being a travel day, was rather lazy and nice, and that's the end of the Vegas tail. The head cold I got though attacked me on the flight home and I found out just how excruciating a descent can be. Today I managed to make it into work for a meeting with my boss at 10, but after 2 hours of being blown off AND using up an entire box of tissues, I called it a day and came home to pass out on my couch. (And subsequently miss my doctor appt at 4:15. Damnit.) The head cold has now the added bonus of an ear infection that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Hopefully the doc will forgive me for today and see me tomorrow so I can get some good anti-biotics. (Please please please!) I'll let you know when I finally post the Vegas pics. :)
