Political thoughts (again)
I'm watching the first presidential debate of 2016 - Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. And my thoughts are this:
Hillary Clinton is a good pick for the Democratic party. I know she's not the perfect choice, but she's a decent choice for the party. Her views of what the government should be responsible for just don't align with mine. I can't stand listening to Trump for 0.00001 seconds, so I'm not pysched about the Republican party's choice. What a windbag.
If I had a mantra, it would be "Do the basics well." I think when a government (or a person) tries to do all things for all people, you fail at a lot of them, you're inefficient, and you just don't need to. I want a smaller government - less revenue coupled with less spending. I love that the government funds so many amazing things, but (especially going through these past 2 years of a tight personal budget), I think it's irresponsible to spend money you don't have, even if it's for a good cause. (I'm still working on this. It's a life goal.) The left side says make the rich people pay more so we can fund cool things. Personally I'd rather have the rich people fund private charities that disclose how much of every dollar goes to overhead versus cause, and therefore we can eliminate some waste. (Although, following that rabbit hole, I'd be taking away jobs from lots of government employees.)
The things that worry me the most are (nationally) the opacity and huge price tag of healthcare. I don't know what the solution is there. I hope there is one out there. And internationally, protecting our trade needs while keeping out of unnecessary conflict. I'm not much deeper than that.
Anyway, I'm tired. I don't know if all presidential elections are this polarized, but I sure hope not.
