The banquette

Mamacita was in town for 2 weeks, and being the begetter of this DIY diva, she wanted to do some projects. Or, she wanted to take over my project and finish it up for me. Yes, please! (Remember last time I "convinced" them to tile my kitchen backsplash? They don't actually require much convincing.)

So, I pulled out all the miscellaneous cans of paint in my garage and I let her pick a color for the banquette table. We then set to work painting it: I gathered supplies, she did the work. Great teamwork. First it needed to be sanded, and some holes patched, and then we got to the fun part. Of course, coat #1 of paint revealed that our putty (Durham's water putty - magical stuff) shrunk when we filled the holes. So this time around, she put the putty on but left an excess on the top. Then when it dried, a little sand paper took it down nice and flat. That Mom, she has such great tips. We ended up putting about 4 coats on, and then I waited a few hours till it was dry to the touch before I put the first coat of polyurethane on it. I haven't done that in a long time, but I know that they stressed lots of thin coats. Only I couldn't seem to get a nice thin coat, and it ended up taking 3 days to dry...

Momsie came back from visiting Amy's clan, tried a second coat that failed miserably, and then repainted it. THIS time, we let the paint dry overnight. Seems like the first time around, it was still wet underneath, the poly applied terribly, and then it dried like poop. Lots of rambling to say that I now have a pretty table for my banquette area. In a few days my DIY supplies for the backrests will arrive, and maybe by next weekend it'll be fantastically done. WOOOOO!
