A great day of getting stuff done
Today was a fantastic day. I didn't go skydiving, or meet a celebrity, or eat at a fancy restaurant. Nope. I spent the day at home, with the family, finishing up projects that I've started over the past few months and haven't been able to finish. It feels Awesome. And here are the highlights.
A few weeks ago I painted one wall and then the closet this blue/purple color. We then moved the dresser in there, and that was it. So finally today, we put up the shelves, cleaned all the junk off the floor and put it back, found a tension rod to hang some sheer curtains, and voila! The day was underway.
Then I looked at these sad letters that I started painting a little while ago. They were sad because I accidentally used ceiling paint instead of the white gloss, and I knew I'd be back at square one. I'm not such a fan of square one the second time around. So I dug up some spray paint figuring that even 20 coats of spray paint would take about the same amount of time for all the letters that I spent painstakingly painting just 3 of them.
This time around, Eve got purple and Brynna got white. The end result will be white on purple wall and purple on white wall, so I'm pretty psyched. :)
At the bottom of the pile of junk I found these shelves. These shelves that were in the nursery on Highland when Brynna was born. And then were meant to go on about 3 different walls since then, of course I just never got around to it. But today! Today was a different story.
Since I was on a roll in the girls' room, I decided to rehang some wall art that my mom put together when Eve was born. Not sure that it's actually in the best location/arrangement, but it looks wayyyyyy better than in a pile on the floor :)
And finally, today was the day for trying out cloth diapers. Cloth diapering probably brings this idea to mind...
But actually, they've come a long way. It took me nearly 4 years of mulling this over to actually give it a go. In the end, the gears started spinning when I read a very down to earth blog from someone 2 years in. Then I happened to meet someone in my neighborhood that used the exact same kind, and they gushed, and I thought, "Well, I drop $50 every month now on diapers. For $200 I could get diapers that will last me the next 6 to 12 months that Eve is in diapers. And then theoretically through future babies. Savings potential of $2000 minimum. Couldn't hurt to try." So I bought 6 BumGenius Freetimes for $100.
We used all 6 of them today, and it went just fine. They are bulkier than disposable, but loads cuter. So far, I'm in favor of the cloth. However, we're still going to try them a little longer before I fully invest in the 6-12 more that we'd need for a comfortable rotation. Here's the girl pre-bed (right before we switched to a disposable for overnight time).
Believe it or not, we did even more than that. We bought a new TV for the girls living room (killed the hand-me-down tube TV a few months ago), got Panera for dinner, got Brynna a hair cut, got frozen yogurt for dessert, and then stopped by Lowes so I could snag some palm plants for around my pool. And I blogged. I'm exhausted. I need a glass of wine...
