The training game
I love the latest Maroon 5 album. (Random.)
Matt, Gary and I signed up to do the St. Anthony's triathlon in May. It's an Olympic distance, and it's one of the premiere U.S. triathlons. It kicks off the tri season, is located in a beautifully sunny place, and is very flat. Lots of pros come here to get qualifying times. Or so I've heard.
Anyway, the race is 16 weeks away. I haven't worked out in a year. And in a few months, we're going to do a mile swim, followed by 25 miles of biking, followed by running 6 miles. That's like 2.5 hours of race. I'm simultaneously psyched and stressed. We started training last week, and I just got back from my 3rd run. And it felt TERRIBLE. I wanted each step to be my last, and I looked at my watch like every 30 seconds hoping that it would say something different. And then I tripped and fell. I know that by the end of this, I'll feel like a million bucks when I go to workout. I am keeping a firm grasp of that thought each time I want to quit. I'm just trying to get over the 2 week hump. My theory is that anything new is really tough for the first 2 weeks. (New job, new city, new apartment, new workout plan...)
Oh, and my first biking experience was a spin class. I jiggled. Not cool.
