My workout declaration
Spring/Summer is my favorite time of year. I mean, for at least 6 months I really truly want to exercise and push myself. Then I hibernate in the winter :) Only this year, I'm preggers and so I put off my annual cardio push. Then I decided that pregnant people everywhere exercise (had some friends in the military that would run 5-6 miles every day right up until 8-9 months!), and it would be good for my mental health to break the sloth cycle. I went to Amazon and bought 2 DVDs (this was the picture on the front of one of them... how could I NOT buy it?!?!?!)
The other piece of it was swimming. Matt's training for his first triathlon, and since water is not his second home, he needs a little bit of encouragement going to the pool. Works for me since Brynna LOVES the pool and starting next week we'll be doing swim lessons 2 nights a week. But I digress. Even though Matt was lap swimming, I wasn't, and I blame my years of competitive swimming. See, in college the average practice was like 2,000 - 3,000 yards. Warming up was an easy 500. And I guess I've been thinking that if I wasn't going to put in that level of effort, then swimming wasn't worth it at all. Last night, I decided to kick that notion to the curb and get back in the pool.... and it felt great! First, I *heart* "muscle memory". I felt like a fish, and was psyched to be able to outpace the "medium" swimmers by slowing down my strokes and keeping it smooth. Second, I was totally winded by the 4th lap. So I broke it up into 200 yd segments and only actually did 500 yards, but decided to be excited that I actually got an aerobic workout in.And I realize this is a lot of swim-jargon for people that could care less, but the point is - you should go exercise. Find something that you enjoy, and do it. Even if it's only a little bit. And then do it a little more. And a little more. And eventually you'll be kicking ass and taking names and thinking "I can't believe I could only do a "warmup" at the beginning!"
