A risk
Until 2 years ago, home ownership was the least risky investment you could make. And of all our investments, it has cost us the most dearly in the end. But finally, finally, finally, we're selling our toxic asset. Poor house. It's such a cute thing, it doesn't deserve such a bad name...
Anyway, we have a "ratified contract" on our house. That means that they made an offer, we countered, and they accepted. It's going to cost us about $21,000 to sell it. How insane is that? To put it in perspetive, if we take the money that we've been putting toward the mortgage and put it directly in savings, we will make that back in about 14 months. I wish I weren't so caught up in the money aspect of this, but I really am. It's stressful to wipe out your savings in one fell swoop, and have no concrete object to show for it.
I'm excited that someone is buying it, and that it will no longer be this huge weight hanging over our heads, but it's bitter sweet. We are lucky that we have enough saved to cover it, I know.... le sigh. Happy and sad. As grandmom would say "At least you have your health."

Oh, what WONDERFUL news. Did you remember the Burke's that lived down the street from us? There house has been for sale for almost two years, and they've never had renters. I'm just thankful you will not have to worry about it anymore.
ReplyDeleteThat house sure is cute, though.
