9/9/99 boy

One of my first memories including Matt was freshman year of college - somehow I heard that it was his birthday and I made him a giant red construction paper card that said "Happy Birthday 9/9/99 boy!" and then taped it to his door. Yesterday was the big 2-7, and it was pretty tame. As my gift to him I finally made him meatloaf. For the past 9 years I've avoided this because it's his favorite dish that his step-mom used to make, and I know meatloaf - no 2 are the same! So instead of it not living up to expectations, I just avoided it altogether. Until last night. And I have to say, it actually turned out ok. :) THe mashed potatoes turned out even better. While I was cooking (and running around trying to accomplish 5 other things) I realized that it has been a longgggggggggg time since we've actually had a home-cooked meal (burgers and hotdogs don't count!). My goal is to make another one tonight, but we'll see. I don't want to be too ambitious.

Also in honor of Matt's bday, Friday night we're going to celebrate in style with some candlepin bowling in Davis and then GGE back at the ranch. Only 4 people have RSVPd for the bowling, but luckily those 4 have the biggest personalities, so we should be great. The post-bowl festivities will most likely attract more people since I've promised them alcohol, and I know how they love alcohol!

Since I've last posted, many fun and exciting things have happened. First, we made a trek out to the West Coast for Chris and Carla's wedding. The scenery reminded me of Monterey, but with more big ol' pine trees. We wandered the city of Portland for a few days and found it to our liking. It actually reminded me of Denver (feel-wise. not temperature though!) Then we partied it up with friends for the next few days and found that we can indeed still hang. Niiiiiiiiiice. I also discovered my new favorite song at a ghetto fabulous dance club we went to on Friday - American Boy by Estelle. Get it. Learn it. Love it. Unfortunately, I lost my camera on the way home, so I lost all my fantastic dance floor pictures where I made everyone emulate the cocky Olypian, Usain Bolt. (NOt sure I spelled his name right and not going to take the time to look.) The following awesome pic was taken by Cathe. Thanks Cathe!

The following weekend we made the 8 hour (should be 6 sans bebe) drive down to Wildwood, NJ, to savor time in the parental condo. I can't even begin to describe how utterly perfect the weather was. 5 days spent poolside with occasional strolls down the boardwalk (where I totally capitalized on the end of season sales!) was just what the Beka needed. My parents joined us for the weekend, and then Lis brought the kids out midweek for a day.

And now it's time to do the 5000 chores on my to do list. Or at least accomplish 1 so that I can check something off!
