Election Zoo

It's the day after the Iowa caucus and the political world is in a frenzy. Obama and Huckabee upset the entrance polls, and I think that is a good thing. I hate polls. Hate. I'm putting them on my list of 5. I like that Huckabee won, because I was pretty annoyed a few months ago with the media telling me who would win the primaries based solely on the $$ amount they had raised. Apparently you can't be President unless you're a millionaire.

After last night's political zoo, I decided to start researching the candidates. I used this little poll-thing to start... www.smartervote.org. I don't know how much bias there is in it, but I plan on finding a few others just to check. Then I went online and started reading about some of the candidates, and WOW. There is a lot of acidic prose out there regarding just about every candidate. It seems like people are not content to pick the best candidate for themselves, they need to express to the entire world just how much they HATE the other guy. It was really depressing. Disheartening, even. And I learned that you can take ANY quote and spin it to fit your views. Quotes are the devil. Read the whole speech, or at least a few paragraphs, and get a general idea of what the candidate was trying to say. Don't just latch onto a quote and run with it.

So this is my request of you, dear friends, during this crazy time that is an election year. There is enough negativity out there. Pick your candidate(s), and be a good proponent of them. Don't waste your breath tearing down the other guy. And I will respect you even more.
