10 miles. Who knew?

I guess I will now finally start referring to myself as a "runner", a title I've been reluctant to try on, even after 2 half marathons and other assorted races. You see, this past weekend (we) ran the Broad Street run in Philadelphia, and although it wasn't the longest course I've done, it was by far a personal best. For once, I ran the entire thing. Not only ran, but actually had enough energy to kick butt on the last 2 miles and finish in an all out sprint (Much to Matt Shea's chagrin. The little bugger thought he was going to kick me to the curb at the end! I beat him by 2 seconds. :)) I'm excited - now that I know I can run that distance, I can try to get faster. It only took me 2 years to get to this point! :) But enough about me, let's talk about the other amazing people who finished as well (and did way better than I did in my first long race)...

The other amazing participants include Julie (our ring-leader), Naomi, Alyssa, Matt, and Julie's mom (Dottie). Shakes was going to run but had a little training setback last week. No worries, we'll have him primed for the next race we can find :) I'm incredibly impressed to say that everyone ran the entire race. This is HUGE! AMAZING! and pretty damn cool. :) The young'uns decided that the 10 minute mile pace was our goal, but just to be safe we started around a 10 and a half minute mile and worked our way down to about a 9:40 mile for the last 2. Thus averaging our target and successfully rocking the casbah. Dottie, who had decided early on to run the first 5 and walk the rest, managed to also outdo herself and ran nearly the whole thing. At the risk of sounding like a psycho gym person, I'm incredibly impressed. :) Who knew it would turn into such a fabulous event?

I've attached our times below and promise for pictures to follow once they get posted.

Julie 1:41:21
Naomi 1:42:18
Alyssa 1:42:55
Beka 1:41:07
Matt 1:41:09
